- I am thankful for the fact that in the market the more things change, the more they stay the same. As such, if you have the perspective of a historical viewpoint, there is not much that can freak you out, no matter how crazed and negative the media and punditry portrays a situation.
- I am thankful that I know the difference between NEWS and OPINION about the NEWS. Opinion about financial and economic news (or any news for that matter) can be very problematic and dangerous to one’s financial wellbeing. It is best to make the news vs. opinion distinction and to process and think for yourself on the news and information that you receive.
- I am thankful that I finally came to The Best Piece of Advice nobody ever gave me … Just be there! Be invested in a diversified portfolio of common stocks and don’t let any pundit or market guru scare you out of that position. Plug your ears. Close your eyes and hold on. Market timing / trading is very, very difficult. If I had used this mantra when I began my investment career October 1, 1970 (DJII –750) it would have been a game changer. A lot of really bad things have happened in the world and economy (things we fretted mightily about) during the last 48 years but a dollar invested then in the Dow Jones Industrials would be worth over $32 today and that does not include dividends.
- Last, but certainly not least, I am so thankful for my family, friends and all of you who read and continue to join me on the kortsession journey.
Happy Thanksgiving!
